Screen & Seating

The repertory movie theater auditorium has 75 vintage 1960s theater seats.  The auditorium floor has a 7-degree slope, to allow for each row to have a clear view of the screen. The theater screen is a 23-foot-wide heavy gauge titanium dioxide  Hurley SuperGlo screen. The Hurley screen has sound perforations to allow the front speakers to project sound uninhibited.  The repertory theater auditorium has a total of 12 Altec Lansing model 83 loudspeakers installed on the walls for surround sound.  The walls are lined with 13 foot tall Soundfold sewn acoustic curtains that create a dynamic theatre experience.

Loud Speakers

There is a total of 19 Altec Lansing loudspeakers installed. Behind the screen are 3 enormous Altec Lansing A4X speakers for the left, middle and right channels. These have huge 15 cell high frequency 1505 horns.  The horns are made from lead metal and have tar filling to prevent any errant vibrations.  Each Altec Lansing A4X speaker has 2 large Altec Lansing 288C high frequency speaker drivers per 1505 horn.  There are 2 large Altec Lansing A5 speakers also installed behind the screen for extra left and right extra channel.

Subwoofers

Behind the screen is also 2 massive Altec Lansing 8182 subwoofer speakers for very low frequency sound reproduction. The subwoofers can produce frequencies as low as 20 hz, which is not audible but can still be felt by the audience throughout the repertory. These Altec Lansing subwoofer speakers were custom made by Altec Lansing for this film archive. Each are constructed out of 1-1/8-inch-thick birch plywood. Birch plywood has a rich density which is ideal for better clarity and tone.
